This document is divided into 5 Chapters, in which Bibliography and Annexes are also added. The first chapter contains the introduction regarding mobile communication systems; The justification for this work, both general and specific objectives, is also included. Chapter 2 refers to all aspects that are part of a mobile network: theoretical foundations, evolution of cellular communications, fundamental characteristics of the main systems developed. Chapter 3 studies the third generation system, mainly the UMTS system, but beginning with a fairly complete review of the fundamentals of the CDMA access technique which is the basis for the WCDMA system. In chapter 4 the design of the cellular network for the city of Ambato is carried out, for which aspects that directly influence the design are studied; such as telephone traffic, propagation, frequency bands, link budget, etc. In the final chapter we have conclusions and recommendations which are obtained through the entire study and design process, these will help to determine the scope and limitations of this work network technician jobs.
